Hi – I’m Barrie Hopson and I just thought that I would introduce myself as Katie has very kindly invited me to join her Portfolio Career blog. You will see from the photo that if you have one of these portfolio careers then you have to be fit. In fact you have to be very fit also to keep up with Katie! We have begun to write a book together on portfolio careers having spent most of this year discussing it, planning it and working out whether or not we could work together. The fact that I have been invited here will give you the answer to that. The book is currently titled, And What Do You Do? 10 Steps to Creating a Portfolio Career. We have a synopsis, an introduction and a chapter on Developing Motivated Skills. All we need now is a publisher and a website. We have already interviewed around 20 people who have portfolio careers even if they have never used the term themselves and everything we are picking up convinces us that this will be an ever more attractive workstyle in this century. Watch this space as we develop our ideas as we would like to share these with you and get some feedback. We would also appreciate any thoughts on likely publishers.

Katie has made the mistake of going on holiday for 2 weeks so I can really enjoy myself until she gets back…..

Thank you Oli for your most welcome comment. I was a virgin blogger until Katie persuaded me to lose my virginity. Your comment reinforces me to go on so you may live to regret this too! Keeping with the virginity metaphor – once its gone then I may now just be at it all the time. I have even started to read the blogs of others including your own excellent contributions.
