The ups and downs of social networking

Facebook has announced that it now has 500m active users, just six years after it was launched. The site has become the poster child of social networking on the web. While some others have seen growth, MySpace, Flickr and Bebo appear to have declined in the past year, according to these figures from Nielsen. Interesting international variations are seen, both in the amount of time Facebook users spend on the site each month and in the competing networks’ popularity in different countries. This version was posted by the BBC.

Graphic showing Facebook's size in comparison to other social networking sitesFacebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are all still important and they are becoming more closely linked together. LinkedIn has now got Twitter and Blog post integration and Facebook has pretty much everything integration. If you don’t have a blog or site that hosts your profile, LinkedIn maybe the best place to host a YOU page which can then link to all the other places you are online. You can also ask people to recommend you and your work. Have an easy to remember LinkedIn name ( you may not be able to get exactly yours) – people can then find and link to you easily. Happy linking…..
