Excellent piece from Holly Seddon with a provocative title but with a less provocative tag of: Why have one job when three could be better?
It is always good to get more US case studies and Holly has 3 good ones. Interestingly, she is also quoting the UK research that we posted on a few weeks ago pointing out that UK workers were the most dissatisfied workers in Europe with the exception of the Irish. She also quotes The World of Work 2010 report from Randstad which found that half of all employees feel their skills are underused and around 10% have been forced to take up work that did not make full use of their abilities. This undoubtedly is one of the reasons why more people are being attracted to portfolio careers.
