Hope = options = hope

I always find something of value in looking at Hannah Morgan’s blog and this morning she was making a reference to a remark that Dick Bolles (he of Parachute fame) made about hope. She paraphrases it as

When you have no options you have no HOPE.  Show people their options and you can see their HOPE.”

Hope, she says, is a word that implies pro-active thought and activity. Wish, on the other hand implies passive or re-active thought with little or no activity.

This is particularly significant for me at the moment as my wife had a major stroke 10 weeks ago and is still in hospital unable to walk or talk. This clearly is having an enormous impact on me and not least on the quantity and probably the quality of work that I am engaged in at present. Hannah’s reworking of  Dick Bolles quotation  reminded me of the importance of hope as a generator of options  because no matter what happens to you as opposed to what you make happen – there are always options.

Katie and I would like to wish you a very hopeful new year with many options for you to choose from inside or outside of your portfolio careers.

I wish you and your wife all the very best. Thank you for this wonderful resource of information. Thanks to your and Katie’s book and blog I have been considering options for my future that previously would have seemed unrealistic.
