Free Range Humans Festival

Regular readers of this blog will recognise the name Marianne Cantwell. We invited her to write a piece on portfolio careers for the Gen Y’s in our book and since then she and I have become good friends. She invented this great title and is a walking example of being a free range human. In fact she ranges and runs her business from all over the world – which is one of her points – anyone can do that if they want to. She has an excellent book coming out in the new year about this and you will be hearing more from me when that is published. I’ve already read it and it’s great. She is of course totally unemployable and slightly mad – in the best sense of that word! Also to prove her point she has set up this week long festival, starting tomorrow, which involves her interviewing and talking with a number of specialists in related areas. And she is doing this from Santa Barbara in California.

She has asked me to do a session with her on portfolio careers so on Tuesday evening at 7pm my time we will be doing exactly that. The next day is another 30 minute slot to deal with any questions that people have sent in. She already has participants signed up from all over the world and I believe there are only a few tickets left. I am not writing about this just to promote her festival but to make the point – like she does – that you should never put restraints of time and place on your ambitions. And you should go for it. She is unencumbered by family which helps but too many of us use this as an excuse for not tapping in to our creativity and doing the things that we love. People with families have for the most part already made decisions to do something that they love. So learn from that and do more of it. You may not be able to be quite so free range as Marianne but the world does not have to be your farmyard. Your internal world can be. I hope that I might have the pleasure of talking to or hearing from some of you this week.

I’ve got a ticket for this and I’m really looking forward to it. I follow the work of Marianne Cantwell and find her incredibly inspiring. I have high hopes for this festival, I’m sure it will be fabulous. Looking forward to hearing your session on Tuesday Barrie!
