Whenever I give talks about the characteristics that will more likely than not enable you to start and develop a portfolio career I always end with one negative. After all the positive points I say that perfectionists might well find a portfolio career very stressful. We don’t have time to be perfectionists. We always have so much to do that to manage we will have to cut corners. Having said that I really hope that any surgeon operating on me is indeed a perfectionist!
I loved this short video from Jennifer Gresham who is a scientist but even so is wary of perfectionism in that career and especially in life as a whole. Note what she and her daughter say to each other every morning.
