68819.ms-025This is a question I am asked regularly. My answers vary according to my mood and time of theĀ  year! One that I consistently use is the simple fact that I miss the ongoing contact with a ‘team’ of fellow workers. I can manage to recreate much of the social contact but I miss the ‘watercooler’ chats. That is where you bounce ideas and also get tips as to how to do things on your computer or smart phone or whatever that are new to you. Sometimes I discover that I didn’t even know what I didn’t know.

I recently discovered a whole batch of ancient video from over 25 years of my life. I got them all put on DVD and then thought I need to edit this stuff down. How do I do this on my iMac? I googled, read, rang up people and finally in the Apple Store at Covent Garden was informed that Apple stores offer free workshops to help you learn all kinds of stuff and suggested I book on one in the Leeds store. This happens next week so I will test it out as a learning device. Apparently I download some software and then I can use imovie to do it. We shall see.

The same guy took time to get me a number of screen shots which explained how I could use short cuts on my keyboard to do all kinds of stuff. When I had my company my admin team used to educate me on a daily basis with things like this. God – I do miss that! But – I wouldn’t go back to that now.
