The changing nature of work

I seem to be spending more and more time reading and talking to people about the changing nature of work. The fact that we are portfolio workers is just one example of the biggest societal change in how work is viewed since the industrial revolution.

I think it’s worth investing 9 minutes to look at this great piece of video from the folks at the Royal Society of Arts.

This is a great video – it says everything about the banality of the work concept as it currently exists. As real work in the Western world starts to run out – we will need to consider new ways of dividing out the wealth created by Industrialization. Many people now are paid to undertake work that is frankly a non job – there are many of these in the Public Sector. The wealth of the UK is fast running out as we allow capital to flow freely out of the country into other economies. Tax avoidance ( condoned by governments) is taking away potential jobs and wealth for the next generation. This is the last chance of a wake up call for us all.
